Valentine’s Day 24/7/365

Valentine's Day is here, and if you get past the corny clichés, expensive flower arrangements and packed restaurants, there is a great lesson to learn. February 14th is the day we're encouraged to celebrate love and friendship, but it goes further than that, it is about relationships. We take time to reflect on our relationship with our spouse, significant other, children, friends, family, etc. and show our love and appreciation.

The problem is we shouldn't be waiting for a day that comes around once a year to demonstrate how much we care and what our loved ones mean to us. We must be constantly engaging and nurturing these relationships in order for them to flourish.

In business as in our personal lives, there are relationships that we must take care of day in and day out. Your relationships with your customers, vendors, coworkers, employees and prospects need your attention and want to feel appreciated and valued.

Here are some ideas on how to be more effective in managing your business relationships:

Communicate often

Here at TheEyeWorks we are passionate about helping our clients succeed by providing creative marketing and digital solutions, and in doing this, it is easy to put your nose to the grindstone while working on a client's project without taking the time to actively communicate the progress and status of a project. That is why we have project management software like Basecamp and customer service tools like Zendesk, that help us keep the channels of communication open during and after a project is complete.

Communication shouldn't stop when a project is complete or when a site goes live. Make sure you are keeping up with your clients with an informative email regularly, via social media or an old-fashion phone call will do the trick.

Let them know you are thinking about them

People love to know that someone is thinking about them. Your clients will appreciate it if they know that you are constantly on the lookout for information that could help them in their business. Take the time to forward an article related to your client's industry, or about a new tool that might be useful to their team.

To your employees or team, take them out for an impromptu lunch or bring some breakfast burritos in the morning. Even a quick email thanking someone for a job well done will go a long way.

Take responsibility and take action

Every now and then, like in any relationship, there's a bump on the road. When something goes wrong, immediately communicate it (refer to first point), avoid at all costs blaming the dog for eating your homework and accept responsibility if indeed it was an error on your part and take immediate action to amend the situation and get back on track.

I hope you have a wonderful Valentine's Day but remember, tomorrow is Valentine's Day too.
