I think most business people have come to the realization that if they are a serious enterprise, they need a serious Website. There are a few people that are still in denial about the Internet, but thankfully not many. So the real question becomes, how and what do I look for when buying a Website for my business?
The analogy I like to use is the guy who is torn between getting an Audi or a Kia. No offense to Kia, but there is a real and stark difference between these two vehicles. There are differences in quality, manufacturing, dependability, customer service and yes, price. While both vehicles will take you from point A to point B, it’s the Audi, let’s face it, that has the higher-quality, is more dependable, gets noticed more and is a better value for the money. The Kia is just a car.

A while back a prospective client was lamenting the fact that there wasn’t a complete approach to increasing his sales. In other words, an approach that addresses his need to not only promote his company, but to also bring in new sales NOW!.

Everyone is saying that contributions to charities and non-profits are down. I think that even though times are a little tough, now is the time when we should come together and help those less fortunate – especially when it comes to children. Being a father of one energetic child and one on the way, I completely understand the pain and the tragedy it must be to have a sick child. No parent wants to think about that possibility. Well there is something we can do.

So there I was minding my own business, when out of the blue I get an invitation to speak in front of hundreds of small business owners. Can you say “fear of public speaking” and “panic?” Actually I enjoy speaking in front of others, especially when it’s a topic that is near and dear to my business heart.

“Don’t try to be all things to all people.” It’s a simple concept, but many times overlooked. This thought is reinforced in a book that I am about to finish reading – Selling To Big Companies, by Jill Konrath. You can find out more information on the book at www.sellingtobigcompanies.com.

Let’s take this test together:
1. Pretend you are a potential customer
2. Go on Google or Yahoo and type in a typical word (s) that describes your business or services
3. Are you listed on the first page? How about the second page? Third?
By the time a customer gets to the third or even fourth pages in a search engine, they have either found what they are looking for or they have lost interest. If your site is buried deep within a search engine’s pages or not even listed at all, then chances are your site is not fully optimized – this means that unless your customer knows the exact name of your business, they will not be able to find you in an online search.

I heard that comment from a client last year. That got me to think that maybe a refresher summary on TheEyeWorks was in order. We are proud that TheEyeWorks has evolved into a fully integrated technology-based Web, Marketing and Public Relations agency. I give our clients some credit for this. As their business grew, we grew with them, and accordingly we added appropriate services to meet their business needs.

There are many advantages to having a Content Management System (CMS) on your Website. The most notable of these is that content managers no longer have to know HTML to update and post fresh content to their Websites.
Today’s CMS is a PR or Marketing departments dream come true. Anyone responsible for updating and posting new content to their Website, such as press releases, announcements, new hire postings, etc., can do so easily and most times quickly. Gone are the days of having to go through your Web team or provider, and waiting until they get around to your request.

Everyone is talking about it. The stalling U.S. economy is on everyone’s mind.
If you are a business owner, the economy is hitting your business directly and maybe in a more personal way. I know many business owners that have seen their sales slow to a crawl. On top of dealing with day-to-day business operations, we must remain proactive in bringing in that elusive new customer. Making the phone ring or having new customers walk through our door should be a top priority of any serious entrepreneur.

Labor Day traditionally signals the beginning of the race for president in an election year. And if you’re just tuning in, it’s truly turning out to be a historic contest. Whatever your party affiliation or political leanings, there is one aspect that all political pundits agree - the emergence of what they are calling New Media is having an enormous impact on this year’s run for the White House.
Actually, this New Media has been around a while. It’s the political campaigns that have learned to leverage the power and influence of this technology to reach as many voters as possible. To ignore it, would be at their peril. Let’s explore a few of these.
