A while back a past client got some local TV coverage. While that may seem to be a good thing, unfortunately for them the story turned negative. Also unfortunate for them is that the news story prominently displayed their logo and said the name of their company repeatedly - thus inexplicably tying the company's brand to the negative tone of the story.

As some of you have seen, the Red Cross had an accidental "rogue Tweet" that was dispersed across the Twitterverse last night. Although it was a bit comical and the matter has since been resolved, it got us thinking as to what companies should do to prevent this from happening and what to do if an inappropriate Tweet is sent.

A social media policy is becoming just as more important as having an actual social media account. As we've come to find out, sometimes the hard way, Tweets spread like wildfire and having some sort of damage control plan already in place can go a long way. Nearly every time someone has a less than stellar experience, they are bound to tell somebody. With social media, they don't just vent to one person, they vent to all of their friends and followers, and in just a few seconds. If the Tweet or update catches on, it could mean bad news for your business.
